Christian Schools Blogsite Discussion

Around the world there is a wonderful diversity of Christian schools. This blogsite includes articles and promotional videos for, and about, Christian schools. The inclusion of material is not an endorsement.

Hopefully these articles, videos and examples from around the world will help parents better understand the different visions of Christian schools. The goal is for parents to be better equipped to ask questions. It may help Christian schools evaluate what messages they are sending out to their community.

Do schools kill creativity

Wednesday, November 03, 2010
TED is an annual conference described as "Riveting talks by remarkable people". Creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson challenges the way we're educating our children. He champions a radical rethink of our school systems, to cultivate creativitySir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

He claims teaching and allowing creativity is as important as literature.

Some would say this video has nothing to do with Christian school system. However I think it is Christian schools who can help challenge the dominant culture and create different models. It is important for Christian schools to understand that our education system can be more influenced by society and culture than by our faith.

Education Today and Tomorrow

Tuesday, October 05, 2010
This video helps highlight the changes in our society and the challenge it presents to preparing students for life after school. It includes how China is becoming the largest English speaking nation in the world.

Some schools will be early adopters of technology. Some wait and see and pick and choose what they feel will help students best. Others are dragged along only when everyone else has moved on. While technology may have changed society and how we interact teaching is still about relationships. In the 1920s the first records threatened to make teachers redundant. “Why do we need teachers when everything can be recorded and just played back”. Cassette tapes, DVD and internet all may have changed methods of teaching but the role of a teacher is still important. However now more than ever we need students and teachers to be continual learners as society and technologies change so rapidly.
